Background

Campath-1H is a potentially new treatment for Multiple Sclerosis or MS.  It is currently undergoing Phase III trials around the world determine whether it can help those with an early form of MS. The drug is a monoclonal antibody designed to target that part of the immune system which is assumed to be harming people with MS (PwMS).  Campath's scientific name is alemtuzumab and it is currently manufactured by Genzyme and distributed by Berlex Laboratories.  It has been developed for a number of years, and has already been used as a treatment for B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

News

Results from the Phase II trial of Campath for MS (CAMMS223) can be found here.

Genzyme have now started a Phase III trial. It will be split into two parts; one part for those who have had no treatment so far, and another for those whose existing treatment has not prevented relapses.

Important

I am not a doctor, but a person with MS who has undergone this treatment. This site is no substitute for professional medical advice, but merely a tool for those seeking more information on this subject. Campath-1H is a powerful drug, and should only be considered as a treatment option after extensive consultations between a patient and their own medical practitioners.
